How to make a beat with AI

In Genie Studio, start a project from a genre template (Trap, Pop, Lo-fi, Reggaeton, House or R&B) or use Loop Starter: pick a genre and mood and the AI writes 8 bars of drums, bass, chords and melody that fit together, sets the tempo and key, and gives you every part as editable MIDI (included on Starter and above, no credits). Shape the drums in the step sequencer, load your own sounds onto drum pads or the sampler, add AI sound effects, then mix and export.

Melo playing a glowing grid of drum pads with a step sequencer

Steps

  1. Start a project

Open Genie Studio and start blank or from a genre template: Trap, Pop, Lo-fi, Reggaeton, House or R&B.

  2. Get a starting loop with AI

Choose Loop Starter, pick a genre and a mood and add anything else you want. It writes 8 bars of drums, bass, chords and melody that fit together and sets the tempo and key. Everything arrives as MIDI you can edit. Loop Starter is included on Starter and above, with no credits.

  3. Program the drums

Open the drum track in the step sequencer to switch hits on and off, or draw them in the piano roll. Each pad can play your own sound from the library.

  4. Play melodies and chords

Use the piano keyboard with the mouse, the computer keys or a MIDI keyboard. Chord mode plays a whole chord from one key, and the arpeggiator plays held notes in time.

  5. Add sounds and effects

From the Add menu, add one-shots and loops (Add a sound or loop, 1 credit each) or describe a riser, impact or whoosh (Sound effect, 1 credit). Drop samples into the sampler to play them across the keys.

  6. Mix and export

Run Auto Mix (free), adjust by ear, and export MP3, WAV, stems or MIDI (exports need Starter or above).

Common mistakes

  • Too many parts at once. Start with drums and bass; add chords and melody after the groove works.
  • Ignoring the key. New MIDI parts follow the project key; keep samples in key too.
  • Mixing at full volume. Leave headroom and master at the end.

Questions

Can I make a beat for free?

Yes. Templates, the step sequencer, the piano roll, built-in instruments and the mixer are free. Exporting needs Starter or above.

Is the AI loop editable?

Yes. Loop Starter writes MIDI, so every note of the drums, bass, chords and melody can be changed.

Can I use my own samples?

Yes. Save sounds to your library and load them onto drum pads or the sampler.

Can I export the MIDI to FL Studio?

Yes. Export MIDI (.mid) writes every MIDI track at the project tempo.
