How to make music online with friends

Open your project in Genie Studio and start a Live session with friends. Share the invite link: anyone signed in who has it can join, up to 4 people per session. Everyone sees edits as they happen; you can switch a guest between editing and view only, remove someone, and talk over the built-in voice chat (use headphones). The project saves in the host’s account, with comments on the timeline and a version history you can restore from. Live collaboration is free.

Steps

  1. Open the project

Open the song or project you want to work on in Genie Studio. You will be the host; the project saves in your account.

  2. Start a live session

Open Live session with friends and copy the invite link.

  3. Invite people

Send the link. Anyone signed in who has it can join and edit, up to 4 people per session.

  4. Set roles

Switch each guest between editing and view only. View-only guests watch and listen; their changes are not shared. You can remove someone from the session at any time.

  5. Talk while you work

Turn on the microphone to talk with the session. Use headphones so others do not hear the song twice through your mic.

  6. Comment and keep versions

Leave comments pinned to the timeline and restore an earlier version from the history if an idea does not work.

Good to know

  • Up to 4 people per live session
  • Guests need to be signed in
  • If the host leaves, later changes are not saved
  • Works across browser, iPhone and Android

Want to write the song together from scratch?

For writing a brand-new AI song with friends in timed rounds, use Feats, the multiplayer songwriting mode.

Common mistakes

  • No headphones on voice chat. The song feeds back into your mic for everyone.
  • Sharing the link publicly. Anyone signed in with the link can join and edit. Send it only to people you trust.
  • Host closes the project. Keep the host in the session until you finish.
