Build your Suno song direction
Quick answer
Choose a reusable Music Style DNA preset or describe the sound yourself. Keep the production brief separate from the lyric, then review the music model and its credit cost before generating in Melody Genie. A preset is a starting direction, not a promise of an exact recording.
Start from a preset or your own notes
Music Style DNA gives you reusable musical direction without rebuilding a brief from scratch. The custom description option lets you specify a sound when you already know the arrangement you want.
Separate words from production
Put the actual song text in the lyric field. Use the sound description for genre, instrumentation, tempo feel and delivery. Keeping those choices separate makes later revisions easier to understand.
Make the voice choice explicitly
Keep the default vocal direction or choose an eligible saved voice. Personal voice features require a voice you own or have permission to use; an artist-inspired preset does not grant rights to a real person's voice.
Listen, then change one decision
After a render, identify what missed the brief: arrangement, delivery or structure. Preserve the parts you liked and adjust the relevant control. Model capabilities differ, so use the options available for your chosen engine.
Frequently asked questions
Is Melody Genie an official Suno prompt tool?
No. Melody Genie is an independent music and songwriting suite. This page opens its music workflow. Suno account features, subscriptions and credits are managed separately on Suno.
Does choosing a preset immediately spend credits?
Selecting a style is not a music render. Review your lyric, direction, model and displayed credit price before pressing Generate. Writing new lyrics is a separate billed action when you use it.
Can I start without a finished lyric?
Yes. Write a lyric first using the integrated lyric workflow, or bring your own finished words. A sound description does not replace the lyric when you want control over what the song says.
Where are the prompt examples and troubleshooting steps?
The Suno prompt workflow guide explains how to separate lyric text from sound notes and diagnose conflicting directions. Keep it open when revising a brief you already have.
