How to release an AI song on Spotify

Yes, you can release an AI song on Spotify. Spotify does not ban AI-made music; it removes unauthorized voice impersonation, spam and artificial streams. You release through a distributor: make the song on a plan that includes commercial use, make it yours, export a WAV master (Spotify recommends about −14 LUFS integrated with true peak below −1 dBTP), use cover art that does not present an AI-generated photorealistic person as the artist, declare AI credits at upload if your distributor offers them, and pitch the song in Spotify for Artists at least 7 days before release.

Steps

  1. Generate on a plan that includes commercial use

In Melody Genie, commercial use rights start at Starter. Songs made on the free plan are for personal, non-commercial use, so make the version you will release while you are on a paid plan. Under the Terms you own what you generate.

Tip: Most distributors also ask you to confirm you hold the rights to everything in the track, so keep your account and the song in your library.

  2. Make it yours before you release it

Edit the lyric, replace a weak section, record your own vocal over the instrumental or rearrange the parts in Genie Studio. Every human decision strengthens your position with distributors and, where it applies, with copyright offices.

  3. Never imitate a real artist’s voice or name

Spotify only allows vocal impersonation when the impersonated artist has authorized it. Style presets in Melody Genie are written “in the style of” and model craft, not identity, but the release itself must not use a real artist’s name in the title, artist field, description or artwork.

  4. Master and export a WAV

Spotify normalizes playback to −14 LUFS and recommends a master around −14 dB integrated LUFS with true peak below −1 dBTP (below −2 dBTP if your master is louder). In Genie Studio the LUFS meter shows loudness while you play, the export card shows the loudness and peak of the finished file, and AI mastering costs 4 credits. Export WAV and check your distributor’s file requirements before uploading.

Tip: The full workflow is in the guide “How to master a song online”, linked at the end of this page.

  5. Choose cover art and an artist identity carefully

Spotify adds an AI Persona badge when an artist’s public identity is an AI-generated photorealistic person, and music from AI Personas is left out of editorial and personalized recommendations unless a listener engages with the artist. Using AI tools to make the music does not trigger the badge; presenting a fake photorealistic human as the artist does. A real photo, an illustration or abstract artwork avoids it.

  6. Upload through a distributor and declare AI credits

Spotify receives music from labels and distributors. If your distributor supports Spotify’s AI credits (in beta since 16 April 2026, starting with DistroKid), mark the roles where AI was used: lyrics, vocals, instrumental performance or production. Credit AI and human contributions to the same role separately. Spotify says disclosure is not about down-ranking tracks.

  7. Pitch at least 7 days before release

Deliver the release early, then pitch the unreleased song in Spotify for Artists (Music → Upcoming). A pitch submitted at least 7 days before release day puts the song on your followers’ Release Radar. Pitching does not guarantee playlist placement.

  8. Stay clear of spam patterns

Spotify’s spam filter targets mass uploads, duplicates, SEO tricks and artificially short tracks, and Spotify prohibits artificial streaming. Release finished songs at a human pace, never upload the same song under several titles, and never pay a service that guarantees streams.

Does Spotify allow AI music?

Yes. In its September 2025 policy update (revised in 2026) Spotify said it leaves creative decisions about AI to artists and treats all music equally regardless of the tools used. What it acts against is misuse: unauthorized AI voice clones and impersonation, spam such as mass uploads and duplicates, and deceptive content.

What you need before you upload

  • A song made on a plan that includes commercial use (Starter or above in Melody Genie)
  • A WAV master, checked for loudness and peaks
  • Cover art that meets your distributor’s and Spotify’s requirements
  • Clean metadata: your artist name, the song title, songwriter credits, no real artist’s name
  • Honest answers to your distributor’s AI questions
  • A release date at least 7 days out, so you can pitch

Common mistakes

  • Releasing a free-plan song. The free plan is personal and non-commercial. Regenerate or finish the version you release on a paid plan.
  • Using an artist’s name to get found. A real artist in the title, featured field or tags is impersonation risk and gets releases pulled.
  • A photorealistic AI “person” as the artist. It can earn an AI Persona badge and remove the music from recommendations. Use real or illustrated imagery.
  • Mastering as loud as possible. Spotify turns loud masters down to −14 LUFS. Crushing the mix only costs dynamics and adds distortion.
  • Skipping the AI questions. Answer your distributor honestly. Disclosure is how Spotify is building trust in AI credits.

Questions

Can I upload an AI song directly to Spotify?

Independent artists release through a distributor or label, which delivers the files and metadata to Spotify. Spotify’s AI credits are also added through the distributor at upload.

Do I have to say my song uses AI?

Spotify’s AI credits are optional and in beta. Distributors that support them ask at upload which roles used AI. Answer honestly; some distributors require disclosure in their own terms.

Will disclosing AI hurt my song?

Spotify says the AI disclosure standard is not about punishing artists who use AI responsibly or down-ranking tracks that disclose. The AI Persona badge is a separate thing about the artist’s public identity.

Can I use a famous artist’s voice?

No. Spotify only allows vocal impersonation when the impersonated artist has authorized it. Melody Genie style presets model craft and are written “in the style of”, never as a clone of a real person.

What file should I give my distributor?

A high-quality stereo WAV master. Spotify recommends about −14 dB integrated LUFS with true peak below −1 dBTP. Check your distributor’s bit depth and sample rate requirements; Genie Studio exports 16-bit, 24-bit or 32-bit float WAV at 44.1 or 48 kHz.

Do I own a song made with Melody Genie?

Under Melody Genie’s Terms you own what you generate, and paid plans include commercial use. Commercial permission is not the same as copyright protection, which varies by country and generally depends on human authorship.
